Everything’s Fine: a performative exploration of mental illness

Mental illness comes in different forms, and in many ways, and society still doesn’t know how to deal with it or those who suffer from it. EVERYTHING’S FINE presents performances of music, poetry, theater, and other art that grapples with the difficulties of coping with different types of mental illness. Rather than concealing the condition, we can use art to connect emotionally with these difficulties, whether they’re experienced firsthand or through a friend or relative.

Admission $15 cash at door

Breaking Our Silence: World Pride Showcase

Breaking Our Silence was launched in the 2013 Poetic License Festival by Joanna Hoffman, Elliot D. Smith, Charan P. Morris and Storm Thomas and has since highlighted the work of over 30 all-star queer poets, playwrights, and musicians, sharing their work and their experiences of coming out, finding love, breaking the silence and speaking out.

On June 27th, we are partnering with National Queer Theaterand the inaugural Criminal Queerness Festival for a special late-night World Pride Breaking Our Silence Event.

50 years ago, the Stonewall Riots was a flashpoint of queer activists breaking the silence and claiming their right to exist. Now, we celebrate five decades of queer voices coming together in resistance, community, and pride.

Queer Film Theory 101 NYC

Look to your left, now look to your right. Neither of these queer people has seen an accurate representation of themselves in a film.

So we improvise. We find bits of ourselves in other films, celebrate the hard femme, exult queer subtext, and create identities that match how we feel inside. Join our speakers at House Of Wax Bar as they recall the films that helped them define themselves and explore the queerness between the lines. Plus drinks!

There will be a test. (There's not a test)
